Does it actually darken the document page, or just the toolbar?
Both. That's the whole point. A lot of "dark mode" extensions only theme the browser chrome and leave the white page glowing underneath. This one recolours the page itself — the paper, not just the frame around it — while keeping text legible and images undistorted.
Will it slow Google Docs down?
No. It's a small, focused stylesheet applied to the page you're already loading — there's no background processing, no network calls, and no impact on typing latency or autosave.
Is my document data safe?
Yes. The extension only changes how Google Docs looks in your browser. It doesn't read your document content, doesn't collect analytics, and doesn't send anything anywhere — there's simply no data pipeline for it to leak from.
Does it work in Google Sheets or Slides too?
Right now it's purpose-built for Docs, because Sheets and Slides have very different layouts that a generic filter tends to break (grid lines, cell borders, slide thumbnails). Dedicated Sheets and Slides themes are being evaluated as separate releases rather than bolted on as an afterthought.
Can I turn it off for specific documents, or switch back easily?
